I saw them being sold at Tokyu Hands in Shibuya, though they're not a specialty shop so the selection might be limited. You can buy lots of other stuff there though:
http://www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/shibuya.htm
Thanks Hanasan,
Perhaps any Tokyoites could share where wellies can be found in Tokyo? I'm staying nr Shibuya station.
Seems like an opportunity for an entrepreneur on-site - at Glastonbury there are now loads of wellie shops :-)
Cheers
Matt
I have never seen any wellies on sale in the site. It is better to get ones before you getting there. If you are coming to Echigo Yuzawa, then there is a mega "Home Center" type of a shop. If you walk, it would take 20 miniutes or so. But please note that if the weather is bad, I think wellies would be sold out which happened some years back.
Can we buy wellies on site at Fuji? Or am I better off getting them in Tokyo (and if so where?)
I'm coming to Japan for the first time with my GF this week (we live in Singapore), Tokyo, Kyoto, bit of countryside then Fuji Rock Festival.
We left our wellies in the UK last year after Glastonbury and we hear that Fuji traditionally attracts rain.
Cheers
Matt
tickets can be bought on the day (granted, of course, that the day isn't sold out in advance) -- http://www.smash-uk.com/frf08/news.php?id=43.
Security is pretty laid back. The vibe at the fest is very relaxed, peaceful, and friendly. Everyone is there for fun, not to cause any trouble. The only problems I've ever seen anyone have with security is when people tried to take pics close to the stage at the Green and White Stage. Wasn't a huge problem, security just told them they couldn't take photos.
the member of the legendary band was someone from The Band. He was supposed to play with Jakob Dylan I think
also, i am curious about the set up, if you dont have tickets can you purchase them at the gate? anyone have extra tickets they need to get rid of? and what is the security like? i am used to american festivals where sometimes they can get extremely aggressive and there are a lot of arrests and confrontations.... any insight would be great!
hello! i am an exchange student living in kyoto this semester, and would like to go to fuji rock before i head back home... i was wondering if there is anyone in the kansai area who has space for two girls to ride up to the festival... let me know, cbills@risd.edu thanks!
i have my tickets and with the festival only 2.5 weeks away am very excited. i am flying over from australia for it. extremely pumped about the TBA sunday headline slot... what are the general thoughts out there at the moment? did anyone ever confirm who the "legendary band member" was that couldn't make it? i have tonnes of ideas about who it could be, but i am hoping for either BECK (new album, gap in tour schedule, previous FRF performer) or OASIS (world tour starting august, huge japanese fan base, new album due october).
thoughts?
does anyone knows what time does the shuttle bus operates on the 24th july at Echigo Yuzawa? i will be travelling down from UENO, Tokyo. will be great to know so i am able to plan my route earlier.
Does anyone know what time the shuttle bus begins operating on 24th? I'm planning to book the shinkansen tickets but don't wana end up in the situation where im at Echigo-Yuzawa in the morning but there's no shuttle bus running..
Thanks fellas!!
those are in field of heaven, I think. the real italian pizza, awesome bread, organic japanese dishes, great coffee, Tokyo ale, hemp beer.
my very favorit is organic blackrice rice ball with negi-miso, breakfast bread@pizza shop(thick pizza bread with tomato sauce and extra cheese only for 200 yen), and very fresh cafe ole@lotus cafe.
they also have vege stuff and organic non-alcohol coktail.
Hello,
I have extra 2 3-day ticket and 1 car park ticket.
Car parking area will be near naeba prince hotel.
Please e-mail me if you are intereted in!
Thanks,
twintown
Yeah, I bought mine through e+ too, and they were delivered about two weeks ago. Several of my friends did the early bird ticket thingy, and none of them have received theirs yet as far as I know, so it's probably not time to panic. At least not yet.
I'm looking forward to seeing Bettye LaVette as well. I have to admit, I'd never even heard of her until she was confirmed for Fuji, but I'm a convert now. Another must-see for me is the French hip-hop band, Hocus Pocus. I like their new album a bit less than their first one, but who cares, those songs will probably sound great live anyway.
As to Japanese bands, I'm absolutely certain Double Famous will put on a great show, but I caught them at another fest earlier this year, and will probably catch them again at yet another one, so I can't really say whether I'll see them this time. Speaking of which, the amount of festivals they're playing this year is ridiculous, but I suppose I can't blame organizers for wanting them on the bill.
Likewise undecided on Soul Flower. I see those guys about four times a year (just saw them last weekend, in fact) so I might opt for J.A.M. instead. But then again I always see them as Soul Flower Union, and I've never seen them in the Acoustic Partisan incarnation, so who knows.
A friend of mine bought them through e+, and she got them about two weeks ago. We have no idea about Gan-Ban tickets. You should get it by the middle of July, I guess.
I want to see both Bootsy and New Master, too. Someone told me that the latest tour of Bootsy wasn't that good. Maybe he slowed down. I still have to see the legedary funk kid!
I will see Mark Stewart, because Dug from living colour is in the band.
Bettye, the Deva. Who can not see her!
Also looking forward to many Japanese bands. Mountain Moccha, Undercover, Naruyoshi Kikuchi Dub Sextet, Sunshine Love Steel Orchestra, Para(Seiichi Yamamoto's band), JAM(Piano trio from Soil), Mono, and Soul Flower!
Hey can anyone tell me when if not already will the early bird ganban tickets be sent out, am amping to get mine in my hands so I know its real.....
Good to see Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro mentioned in the funk article. They are excellent, and I'd feared that they'd be neglected among all the bigger funk names.
Also, I had no idea that Undercover Express were Osaka Monaurail, so that's definitely something to look forward to as well.
Now if only someone could explain to me what Smash were thinking when they decided to put Bootsy Collins and the New Mastersounds in the same slot...
More acts were added today! Timetable up too.
are we getting some more bands this week?
anybody know how to get one? ganban the overseas provider is only sellin 3 days and they quit tomorrow. crap noodles. let me know! thx :)
Hey
I live in Nagoya and have early bird tickets. I can't come to Fuji Rock anymore:(
If anyone is interested in buying the tickets, I'll sell them to you at earlybird price - I'm not interested in making a profit, just sad I can't come.
Email me if you're interested
debrabond@yahoo.co.uk
Got my ticket today!Yippiee
Fuji Rock,here I come!
See you there :-D
Sigur Ros are doing a Japan tour in October with Creativeman (Summersonic Promoter) so I'd be very surprised to see them at Fuji
The Who has just announced a Japanese tour on November. That means that they are not the misterious band to join Kiyoshiro on Sunday at Green Stage. I am running out of guesses. It is not Weezer, neither The Who, Sigur Ros would be a good guess, but it would fit better in a more intimate stage. I have no idea who would be this last Green Stage band.
http://www.japan-zone.com/news/2008/06/23/the_who_to_tour_japan.shtml
i would like to see Fishbone! In the last year, I could not see them due to their cancel...
Maybe ... Smash had them in Japan this past weekend for a series of gigs. Their MySpace says that they are doing a DJ set in Stockholm on July 26. Not sure how difficult it would make it to get them here on the 25th or 27th.
The line-up for the Crystal Palace Tent looks pretty stellar. To all FRF newbies -- make sure you go to the Palace Of Wonder at least once during the festival. It is such a cool place and is one of the best parties you will find all weekend long!
Real Deal radio program has just played a lot of Simian Mobile Disco this Sunday night - although it is still sunday morning for me here :).
Could that mean that SMD is one the surprises for a future lineup announcement? That radio program has given lots of clues that ended up being confirmed by the official announcements.

Thank you for the fast answer.
Greetings from germany :-)
I don't think the tickets will be sold out in two weeks. It's better to ask your friend to buy the ticket for you in Japan, I guess.
Deerhoof is either in Japan now or will be in Japan pretty soon to play in very small clubs.
I love those small stages at FRF. Naeba shokudo and Avalon. Sometimes very good bands who is not very famous in Japan give show-case like performance there. I really like it.
The one on the board walk is nice, too.
from ganban of course,sorry
Hello everybody,
Want to go to Japan for Fuji Rock first time this year.
I have to book the flight soon but have no ticket.
Want to buy a 3-day ticket + camping.
A friend of mine will be in Japan in 2 weeks,he could help me and buy me such a ticket in advance ?!
Question:How is the ticket situation ?
Have I to worry to get such a ticket in 2 weeks ?
Should I better try to get a ticket from gamba and pay an expensive banking fee ?
Thank you very much in advance
Deerhoof complemented their White Stage appearance with a more intimate gig at Naeba Shokudu too. I really like that stage! Hopefully some more well-known, hip acts like Jonathan Richman and Deerhoof will play it again this year.
Apart from the main act that will be announced for the Green Stage on Sunday and some others for White Stage, what can we expect for the next announcement?
There are some other small stages to be announced as Naeba Shokudo, Mokudo Tei and Gypsy Avalon. Does anyone have any information on what kind of artist to expect for those? I know that Jonathan Richman played at Nabea Shokudo last year.
Japanese BBS says it will be either 15th or 16th. I haven't heard any rumours except Mark Stewart and the Maffia.
Anyone know when the next wave of artists will be announced? There was an annoucement on June 2. Will there be another one next Monday?
Anyone heard any rumours of who will be added?
There are pics of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis from SXSW on Smashing Mag --
http://smashingmag.com/feature/08feature/080314kittydaisy_hana.html
The hottest and sexiest is Kitty Daisey & Lewis, I guess. But they don't play new music, but bloody old one.
80
The New Mastersounds of course. So stoked that they'll be playing Fuji.
Who is the most hottest band in UK?
This is the website for Smash's UK office:
http://www.smash-uk.com/
Not a lot of information as you can see, but it does seem to list an email address for general inquiries (info@smash-uk.com) so maybe you should try sending an email there?
As http://www.smash-uk.com/frf08/ says is is organized by Smash Corporation Ltd. and why not calling them? It is not difficult to find their phone number, is it?
Does any one know how can I get the press accreditation for this year's Fuji Rock Festival.
I'm with the LA Times and the paper is interested in covering the festival.
I don't see any press contact on the web page.
Help!!
Shibusa was great at last year's Fuji -- http://www.fujirockexpress.com/07english/report/report.php?id=76&page=0&sword=&swhen=&swhere=&swho=170&sgenre=&swrittenby=
There's a lot of great pics of the band on Smashing Mag -- http://www.smashingmag.com/data_base/artist/shibusa.html
check this!

Shibusa in Glasto Fest. We need them back in FUJI!
One of the great surprises of the 7th wave of acts for me was the appearance of the Cro-Magnons at Green Stage. As Wikipedia says, the Cro-Magon are a sort of homo sapiens who used to have a light and "balanced diet of grain, wild carrot, beetroot, onion and turnip" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cro-Magnon).
The Japanese band, on the other side, is an act not to be tread lightly. Just listen to one of the singles of their new album "Cave Party", called "GIRI GIRI GAGAN GAN". It is total madness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5O6q5zEpAo). This is the them song of the movie "Waburo".
If you want to know more about the boring - and extint - Cro-Magons, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkiK2ltj_9I. If want to rock all day long and get to know one of the best Japanese acts of this year´s Fuji, watch this performance of the hit "Eight Beat": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4MRlPbBEs0. And more GirigirigaGangan, this time with some scenes from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWHQ3aAwac4&feature=related
I hope their concert will not overlap with Gogol Bordello´s act at White Stage. That will be one of the hardest choices of the Festival.
says that the member of a legendary band who can't come is Levon Helm from The Band. Also the legendary singer's son is J. Dylan, and the friend of Billy Bragg is Tricky, but they still can't tell us the third band. Nobody had known them when they played at Fuji and they still blew peple's mind then.
To Shawn, isn't is awesome? Many people use his timetable every year, cause it is way more convinient than the official one. The size is perfect and it is rearranged in an order of the destance from the gate.
I don't think Weezer will be coming. There name has been removed from Kyle Gass' blog (which is the only place they were mentioned as possibly being in Asia at the time of FRF for Pentaport -- http://www.gmnext.com/PlugIn/Event.aspx?eventId=5).
Lets just hope that the official timetable does not put Midnight Juggernauts playing at breakfast time, as the one mentioned below.
Looking forward to know who´s gonna be the new artist at Green Stage on Sunday. For me Sunday is already packed with great acts. If Weezer is really attending this year, maybe that´s their place.
Btw, if you have not seen it, their new video is awesome, full of YouTube references:
