I wouldn't really say that Beat Crusaders are the best representatives of Japanese music. I agree that you were probably seeing the wrong bands.
Bands you should've seen: Double Famous, Ino Hidefumi, Special Others (well okay I didn't see them either because I was seeing MBV, but their live shows are always great), Uri Nakayama, Naruyoshi Kikuchi Dub Sextet, Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro etc.
maybe you just had bad luck. I caught some amazing local talent. Mono, Ling Tosite Sigure, Mudy On The Sakuban, Ego-Wrappin', Double Famous, and so many others!!!
I have seen some japanese bands over here in germany which had been realy great.
Audio Active or Guitar Wolf had been absolutly brilliant.
But unfortunatly I must have taken the wrong japanese bands at Fuji Rock.
This Festival is without any doubt the best in the world!
Have been on many different festivals in europe but this one was f.u.c.k.i.n.g. amazing!!!
Thanx to all who made this thing happen!
There had been many many great shows but for me the best one was Ian Brown followed by My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream.
Honestly I must say I was really disappointed about the japanese bands I`ve seen.
Sorry to say that but for me it was just a cheap copy of british/american rockmusic.
Beat Crusaders f.e.was funny to watch but the music was just going on my nerves.
I missed most of Double Famous's set because of a stupid mishap. It turns out that their show at the Ebisu Garden Hall will conflict with Soul Flower Union @ Shibuya AX, so I won't be seeing them there either. So sad.
My top five shows at Fuji this year
1. Michael Franti
2. Hocus Pocus
3. New Mastersounds
4. Naruyoshi Kikuchi Dub Sextet
5. My Bloody Valentine
My faves were Gossip, Gogol @ Crystal Palace (that performance will definitely be remembered as one of Fuji's all-time best), Double Famous, Mice Parade, and Mudy On The Sakuban!
Wow.. Shibui!
1. Naruyoshi Kikuchi
2. Para
3. mice parade
I missed so many awsome parformances!
When a festival is over, nobody wants to talk about nothing? I do! Who was the best? To me, Gogol Bordello @ Crystal Place was the best with no doubt. Nice to be a lucky one to be there.
Hey are there many lockers at Fuji??? I'm not camping but will want to check my bag on Sunday...
Hi
Me and a friend really really want to go to the Fuji Rock festival for Friday but we have not got tickets. Does anyone out there have any spare tickets / know of anyone? Please send me an email address or a phone number and we can meet them in Tokyo \ Nigaata. Obviously we will pay the full value of the ticket!
Sanj
I have just head that Fred Wesley Band will be playing before Bootsy does... WIsh you, Maceo and Pee Wee, are here too!
Safe journey to Fuji Rock! Here in Naeba the weather is OK although we had a heavy shower yeasterday. There are already so many people and sharing a fuji feeling now.
folk having problems getting campsite tickets fear not.......
the touts hanging around the ticket exchange have plenty.
no markup too. :-)
come to think of it....these guys have some amazing deals on all tickets
especially 3 day tickets if you buy them on friday night/sat morning. :-)
名無しさん, oh c'mon man! the lineup at fuji is crap every year.
You misunderstand one thing.....it's not about the music.
It's about the vibe!!! the VIBE!! catch the vibe.
Not only that, but lots of aedine mosquitos and gnat. Lots of snakes... I am not kidding, but a couplf of years ago, there was a bear witnessed. Are you brave enough to jump into bush still?
Yes, you can. And do not sleep in the bush there are tons of ticks!
My friend and I do not have campsite tickets. This occured because I originally planned to hire a car and drive down for the Friday and back again at night but now we will be checking out Thursday night too. Are we able to buy camping tickets on the day if we show them our pass? If not we may well be sleeping in the bush somewhere.
perfect! thanks a ton.
there is 7-11 near the Echigo Yuzawa station, you'll see it in between the station and the shuttle bus stand.
and they have ATM, you can use your UFJ bank card.
I come from France to go to Fuji Rock! I m so so happy!!! I will got here by train on the 26, I have camp site ticket but I have no tent!!! I don t speack a lot of japanese so it s a bit dificult for me to travel alone. I really would like to meet Fuji Rockers and share this trip with them. I now live in Shinjuku, maybe someone will take the train on saturday morning too???? I have a telephone number too. I m quiet friendly and I m ok to travel with boys even if I m a girl!

You can bring drinks if they are in plastic bottles or paper cups. You cannot bring any cans and glass bottles into the site.
YES! Very excited!!
The Japanese Bands lined up to play at Fuji Rock this year are fantastic. Having been to Fuji rock four times beofre I can assure you it is the most beautiful festival setting you could imagine with an amazing atmosphere.
I aren't going this year because most of the new bands I like are at Summer Sonic, and the line-up at Fuji Rock just doesn't inspire me.
But whoever IS going will have a great time x peace x
Very excited about Fuji Rock! Does anyone know if you can take beers and other drinks to the site with you, or do you need to leave them at the gates? At Glastonbury you can take stuff in with you, so just wanted to check....
i know there are no atms on site or in the surrounding area, but is there a UFJ atm at echigo yuzawa? anybody know?
Take Narita Express to Ueno sation or Tokyo sation, then trasfer to JOETSU Shinkansen to ECHIGO YUZAWA station.
From Narita to central Tokyo, about 1 hour, then Shinkansen to ECHIGO YUZAWA takes about 90minutes? Shuttle bus from EXHIGO YUZAWA..about 40minutes. Around 3hours from Narita if everything goes quite well.
This post reads like a big joke!
I had a big laugh about it.
Very very evil to book so many japanese Band (in other countries they only book english/american bands !?)
Someone should erase this post,it contains traces of racism!
Hey guys, i'm landing in Tokyo at 1:30 pm on the Friday then heading straight down, what's the fastest route to Fuji do you think? And what time can i aim to get there? Cheers

Ah. thanks. I read that, and wondered why he posted that message to that "Q&A" topic....

RIGHT!!!!!
Let's have fun!
Now I am worried about the weather!
I guess it is the same thing started happening in the Japanese BBS. Only a few wanted to piss us off as we are so lovely and peaceful. Just igonore those silly minority and let's have fun.

Oh yeah, the original message is here:
http://www.fujirockers.org/08/?p=382#comments
I suspect that 164 was c&p'd by someone else. Probably a Japanese person, given that it was also c&p'd to the Japanese BBS...
The original message was posted to that blog??
I cannot find his post...anyway, if he has changes his minds, that is great.
DO NOT COPY & PASTE the same posting.
That is annoying.
You can go another festival not Fuji Rock Festival in JAPAN. Then you will not be annoyed by any JAPANESE bands. Very simple thing.
As someone wrote, you can sell your ticket if you are so angry.
Message 164 was originally posted elsewhere, in the comments section of an article on org. I guess some wise guy decided to c&p the message here. Tom has since changed his minds about Japanese bands:
http://www.fujirockers.com/blog/200807/000373.html#more
cause you are just stereotyping. I mean you can't generalize all the bands from specific country. Besides if you hate Japanese bands so much you can't come to any festivals in JAPAN.
If you are so much angry, sell your ticket and don't come to Fuji. In that way, you won't let Smash make a profit.
Mind your language, if you speak any.
While I'll agree that the Sunday lineup is a bit of a travesty (looks like I'll be seeing Lee Scratch Perry), you're "well out of order" to trash Japanese bands... it's a festival in JAPAN, for fuck's sake. Some of the bands I'm most excited to see (Mono, FTB) are Japanese.
Fuji Rocks ;ineup is fucking shit!!
having Primal Scream headline Sunday when they are second on the bill on Saturday is a travesty
. I paid to see a varied quality rock bill, I was expecting Arctic Monkeys or Arcade Fire -what do we get? fucking Primal Scream again!!
Also we get ADF classed as a special guest when they are are already playing Saturday!! Fuck off!!
We paid big money for the ticket and the lineup is so thin and shit that we are having repeat artists!!
Smash Promotions we want an apology - come on u fucking cunts!! u r well out of order.
Also there are too many Japanese bands filling out the thin line up, I hate japanese bands!!! fuck off! Also a message to u shit Jap bands -
please have your band names in kanji or kana - dont have English names 2 try to be cool - and fool people into reading your name on the bill and thinking its a cool uk or us act - fuck off.
I have a tkt but am not looking 4ward to going at all!! Ive never been so angry for a long time when I saw Pscream were headlining Sunday night.
Smash I want a fucking apology on your shitty little website!! cheeky fucking cunts!
Food at the fest is top-notch. So much to choose from and all is good. Personally try to make it to the Queen Sheba stand at least once during the fest.
Comparing with what is available @ Glasto, food & meals @ Fuji are top of the world. One of the major attractions of the Fuji is to eat somthing there! Who cares about pop music?
Food prices are quite reasonable. One meal is between 500 to 1000yen. Authentic Fish and Chips is 700yen. Beer is 500.
As long as I remember, it takes more than half an hour from Echigo-yuzawa station to the site.
Hey - anyone know how long the shuttle takes from the site to the train station? How long are Q's on the Monday usually? TIA!
Hello, I am visiting Fuji from the UK. I am trying to work out how much money I will need to spend on food and drink. Does anyone have an idea how much beer and various types of food costs from experience? Also any favourite food stalls that are usually there..?
Thanks to everyone who helped re the wellies. Now on the ground in Japan (and loving it here) - I can confirm the following places as excellent wellie purchasing establishments:
Tokyu Hands
Oshmans and the camping store that is next door in Harajuku
The famous fishing store in Shibuya
And the fish market
Hope this is of some use to people looking for the same.
Fingers crossed for good weather though...
Yeah, you'll have to bring your own tent.
No tents!
anyone know if there are tents available to rent on site for those with camping tickets?
Yipppieeehhhh
What a great news!
Primal Scream will play on sunday again.
I f...ing love this band.
Funk you, All you guys!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Frenk,
I hope i will be able to hope on a shinkansen from tokyo station. :)
Hey Pauleta, from what I've read, the free shuttle bus service begins at noon.
Just curious, where are you coming from?
