今年もいろいろな感動や奇跡がどこかで生まれていたのではないかと思います。そんなひとつが最終日のオレンジコート。強力なラインナップで演奏が繰り広げられたこの日、ソウル・フラワー・ユニオンが最後に歌ったのが「歌は自由をめざす」という曲でした。ステージでの演奏は終わったはずなのに、そのコーラスを受け継いだのがオーディエンス。このとき、まるでエコーするように広がったのは「苗場から歌は自由をめざす」というフレーズです。そのコーラスの輪が延々と続いて、渦を巻いていった光景は、間違いなく今年のフジロックの「感動」のひとつではなかったと思っています。その歌が今度は海を越えて、沖縄は宜野湾に届けられます。
おそらく、ファンの方だったらご存知だと思いますが、数年前から沖縄に居を構えているのがソウル・フラワー・ユニオンのメンバー、伊丹英子。彼女が実行委員会のメンバーに加わっているのがピース・ミュージック・フェスタと呼ばれるフェスティヴァルです。といっても、フジロックのように「ただ楽しい」祭りではなく、沖縄に残されている豊かな自然について考え、今も我が物顔であの島を覆うように存在する米軍基地について問いかける祭り。2006年に那覇のレゲエ好きが集まって、広大な敷地を持つ基地、キャンプ・シュワブの隣にある辺野古の浜辺で始まったのが最初でした。その翌年には伊丹や、沖縄からラディカルな音楽を発信するデューティー・フリー・ショップの知花竜海が加わり、広範なミュージシャンを巻き込んでいくことになります。2007年以降の様子はfujirockers.orgの姉妹サイト、スマッシング・マグでレポートされているんですが、2007年はソウル・フラワー・ユニオンから渋さ知らズといった面々が本土から自腹で駆けつけて2日間にわたって開催。翌年は本土の人たちに伝えたいと上野水上音楽堂で約1500人のオーディエンスを集めています。そして、今年の舞台になるのは再び沖縄。普天間基地を抱える宜野湾市海浜公園屋外劇場で9月21日に内外から14アクト集めて開催されることになりました。
まず驚かされるのは、フジロックではお馴染みのオゾマトリの出演かもしれません。沖縄での米軍基地の状況を知り、「だからこそ、出演したい」と語ってくれた彼らは「アメリカにも反戦平和を訴える人々がいることを知って欲しい」と快諾。この日の公演に向けて、地元ミュージシャンとのセッションをリクエストするなど、彼らがどれほどこのフェスティヴァルを楽しみにしているかが伝わってきます。また、2006年のフジロックで感動のステージを見せてくれた加藤登紀子に、あのとき、ゲストで登場したラッパー、カクマクシャカも出演予定とか。彼と知花竜海のデューティ・フリー・ショップが、この会場の隣にある普天間基地の軍用ヘリコプターが沖縄国際大学に墜落した直後、速効で作った名曲、「民のドミノ」は、おそらく、日本のラップ史上最もラディカルでミリタントな傑作ではないかと思っています。それに、あまり多くは伝えられていないかも知れませんが、東村高江の豊かな自然を破壊する軍用ヘリパット建設に反対して、地元を訪れてライヴをやったUAもラインナップに加わっています。詳しくはこちらでチェックできますが、オリジナルなオキナワン・サルサを演奏しながら、キューバでもツアーをしているカチンバ1551から、沖縄の今をロックするシャオロン・トゥ・ザ・スカイに北の大地からはオキ・ダブ・アイヌ・バンドなどなど多彩な顔ぶれが一堂に会することになっています。もちろん、ソウル・フラワー・ユニオンも本土から海を渡り、沖縄を目指します。そして、間違いないのは、巨大な軍事基地建設に直面させられている辺野古の浜を歌った「辺野古節」が響き渡ること。ここでも歌は自由をめざすのです。
当然のように、これはコマーシャルなフェスティヴァルではなく、実行委員会が持ち寄った資金で企画運営しています。「平和」を訴える「祭り」だからこそ、たくさんのスポンサーがつくというのが理想なんですが、皮肉なことに現実はその逆で、ここに集っているボランティアのスタッフや実行委員会がスポンサー… といえば聞こえがいいんですが、実際には彼らの持ち出してこれを実現させることになります。そんな彼らをいろいろな意味でサポートできないかと思いを巡らせています。こちらでは、Tシャツを買うことで、彼らをサポートできます。また、23日の京都磔磔を皮切りに本土で始まるのがソウル・フラワー・モノノケ・サミットを中心としたプレ・イヴェント。詳しいスケジュールは、こちらで確認できるんですが、名古屋や東京でも開かれるこれに出かけることでサポートすることも可能。もちろん、ベストは沖縄に飛んでこのフェスティヴァルを体験することです。本土から沖縄は確かに遠いんですが、ネットで検索すればみつかるのが格安のパッケージ・ツアー。うまくすれば、フジロックのチケット代でこのフェスティヴァルを体験できるかもしれません。9月の連休に沖縄を体験してみればどうでしょう？
本土ではなかなか感じることはできないのが軍事基地に溢れた沖縄です。でも、一度でもここに足を踏み入れると、否応なしにそれを突きつけられます。高速道路を走れば「流れ弾に注意」といった標識に出くわし、今回の会場となる宜野湾のそばにある普天間基地の周りではひっきりなしに爆音をとどろかせながら軍用機が飛んでいます。この「祭り」のスタッフによるブログを覗くと、そこに記されているのは5年前に起きた「事件」のこと。カクマクシャカとデューティ・フリーショップが歌った軍用ヘリ墜落事件です。辺野古の浜では水陸両用車が毎日のように訓練をして、2年前にフェスティヴァルの準備をしていた人たちの方向にその大砲が向けられたこともあったとか。
経費をカバーするためには4000人を集めなければいけないと言われています。もちろん、コマーシャリズムとは無縁なのがこのフェスティヴァル。数多くのみなさんが９月21日に宜野湾の海浜公園屋外劇場を目指してくれることを願っています。
